LaVerne "Whitey" Irvin Paradise, 79, of Rice Lake died Dec. 22 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. Funeral services were Saturday afternoon at Jarocki Funeral Home in Rice Lake with the Rev. Donald Berry officiating and burial in Nora Cemetery.
Mr. Paradise was born June 28, 1929 to Napoleon and Fern (Coleman) Paradise in Rice Lake. He attended Jefferson School in Rice Lake and later moved to Chippewa Falls to finish his schooling. He worked as a projectionist in Chippewa Falls. He entered the Navy in 1950 and served in the Korean War. He later became a truck driver. He married Darlene Avery in February 1955 and moved to the Twin Cities. He retired from trucking in 1981, moved back to Rice Lake, and worked at Lakeview Medical Center until his retirement. His wife preceded him in death, and he married Nancy Houser in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Nascar and traveling on Amtrak.
He is survived by a daughter, Kaye Franta of Chisago City, Minn.; a son, Thomas Anderson of Eau Claire; three step-daughters, Karen Thomas of Chetek, Kathy Duerkop of Haugen and Maria Blaser of Cameron; three step-sons, Mike Houser and Thomas Houser, both of Sarona, and Jeff Houser of Mille Lacs, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil "Jack" of Rice Lake and De Wayne of Wausau; and three sisters, June Havel of Rice Lake, Alice Gafner of Duluth and Ruby Frolik of Dobie.
