He was born to Willis and Grace Coles Cochran. As a child he moved with his family to Wagner SD where he attended elementary school.
They moved to Rapid City in 1941 where he attended Rapid City High School.
Cochran was in the Marine Corps from December of 1944 to April of 1947. He served in the Pacific Theater and was in combat at Okinawa and was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. He participated in the occupation of China from October of 1945 to January of 1947.
After his military service Cochran married Beverly Gustavson Dec 31, 1947 in Rapid City SD.
He was an independent concrete contractor in the Rapid City area for many .
He was a member of Elks Lodge1187, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1273, Marine Corps League and Blessed Sacrament Church.
