Ralph Birdwell, age 92, of the Mt. Vernon Community in Clay County, TN passed away Wednesday morning, January 7, 2009, at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville. Remains are at the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs, TN.

Survivors include: daughters & sons-in-law, Vallie Ann & (Roy) Reecer, Marilyn & (Bob) Proffitt all of the Mt. Vernon Community, Delva & (Ken) Morris of Lawrence, KS, sons & daughter-in-law, Ronald & (Jo Ann) Birdwell of Lafayette, Randy Birdwell of Mt. Vernon Community. Grandchildren, Rhonda (Andy) Stanford of Lafayette, Tara (Brian) Copas of Tompkinsville, Tammie (Michael) Horlacher of Mt. Funeral Services for Ralph Birdwell will be conducted Saturday morning, January 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Glen Crowe officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

Ralph Birdwell, age 92, of the Mt. Vernon Community, passed away, Wednesday morning, January 7, 2009 at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville, KY. Funeral Services for Ralph Birdwell were conducted Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs, TN with Glen Crowe officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers were J.D. Key, Butch Bean, Michael Tatum, Earl Pitchford, Ralph Bryant, Glen Crowe, Dr. Howard Holmes, Samuel Holmes, Phillip Anderson, Wayne Anderson and all members of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ. Active Pallbearers were Dennis Bean, Greg Proffitt, Clint Birdwell, Michael Holacher, Brian Copas, Andy Stanford, Michael Roberts, Joe Roberts, Stacey Browning and Irvin Roberts.

Ralph was born September 18, 1916 in Clay County, TN, the son of the late Sam and Arah (Miles) Birdwell. On December 10, 1938, he married the former Edris Bean, who preceded him in death December 23, 2007. Other than his parents and wife he was preceded in death by, sisters, Vallie Kimble, Delva Bullard, Elma Roach, Maylene Roberts, Hazel Bean and a brother, George Birdwell. He received a BS degree from Tennessee Tech and was a teacher in Macon and Clay County for 40 years. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ.

His survivors include: daughters & sons-in-law, Vallie Ann & (Roy) Reecer, Marilyn & (Bob) Proffitt all of the Mt. Vernon Community, and Delva & (Ken) Morris of Lawrence, KS; sons & daughter-in-law, Ronald & (Jo Ann) Birdwell of Lafayette and Randy Birdwell of Mt. Vernon Community; grandchildren, Rhonda (Andy) Stanford of Lafayette, Tara (Brian) Copas of Tompkinsville, Tammie (Michael) Horlacher of Mt. Juliet, Greg (Jenny) Proffitt of Nashville, and Clint Birdwell of Moss; and great-grandchildren, Sam Stanford, Bailey & Ellie Copas, and Will Proffitt.
