~MY ANCESTOR~

Joanne (Joan) Jordan married first my ancestor, JOHN KITCHELL, on May 17, 1596 at St. George Church, in Beckham, Kent, England. Their son, ROBERT KITCHELL, was my ancestor. In 1602, she married, my ancestor, REV. EDMUND SHEAFFE, in Cranbrook, Kent, England . She was his second wife. Edmund's daughter from his first marriage, MARGARET SHEAFFE, married Joan's son from her first marriage, ROBERT KITCHELL. Confusing, isn't it?

His will dated November 1, 1625 in Cranfield gives Joane, his wife, full right to distribute his furniture and other personal items to their living children. He also mentioned son-in-law - Richard Sharpy, younger sons - Harmon & Jacob, eldest son - Thomas, daughter - Joane, youngest daughter - Mary. Nicholas Jordan, Esqr., brother of his wife, and ROBERT KITCHELL (Edmund's son-in-law, Joane's son & my ancestor) as overseers of his estate.

Joanne probably immigrated with Edmund's daughter MARGARET (Scheaffe) & husband, ROBERT KITCHELL (her son), her daughter, Joanna & husband, William Crittenden, and her son, Jacob with Rev. Henry Whitfield's company in the good ship, ARABELLA, which left London on April 26, 1639 and was the first ship to sail into New Haven harbor. The party settled in Guilford where she died.

Note: Rev. Henry Whitfield's wife, Dorothy (Sheaffe) Whitfield was the cousin of my ancestor, REV. EDMUND SHEAFFE.
