Frank married Aleta Marie Turner on August 19, 1947 in Desoto County, Michigan, and to this union were born two daughters and two sons. He and his wife divorced in the early 60's and he never remarried.
He was a retired farmer, and a longtime resident of Springfield, Missouri.
Frank died at 3:45 AM on Tuesday, May 25, 1971 in Cox Medical Center following a short illness.
Surviving are two sons, Pfc. Robert Mitts of Fort Leonard Wood, and George Mitts of Springfield; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Ice of Yakima, Washington, and June Mitts, of the home; brother George Edward Mitts of Vancouver, Washington; and a grandchild. Preceding him in death were his parents John and Lillian Mitts; sisters, Nellie McCord of Minong, Wisconsin, Susannah "Susie" Hinman of Redfield, South Dakota,and Clara O'Brien of Wascott, Wisconsin; brother Elmer C. Mitts of Seattle, Washington.
Funeral services for Frank Mitts was held on Friday, May 28 at 12 PM in Ayre-Goodwin Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Maness officiating. Burial followed at the Springfield National Cemetery.
NOTE: There is a discrepancy on the year that Frank was born (i.e., 1900 and 1910 census indicated 1890; WWI Draft Reg. Card is 1888; WWII Draft Reg. Card 1889; and the US Veteran Gravesite has 1886).
