Services for Irene Bodley Haines, 99, Shawnee, Kansas, formerly of Kansas City, Kansas, will be at 1 pm Wednesday at St Paul's Episcopal Church, 18th and Washington Blvd, KCK.

Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 pm today at the Butler-Fulton-Nickel Funeral Home, 22 S 18th St, KCK. Mrs Haines requested no flowers, but memorials are to be made to St Paul's Church Food Pantry, Wyandotte County Lion's Club, or to a charity of your choice.

Mrs Haines died September 8, 2001, at The Sweet Life of Shawnee. She was born September 23, 1901. She attended KCK High School and Kansas University. She and her husband had worked together in the KCK banking business for more than thirty-five years. She was a seventy-nine year member of the Wyandot Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Regent of the Chapter multiple terms and also serving as a state officer. She was a lifelong member of St Paul's Episcopal Church and had served as church historian. She authored a book on the history of St Paul's Episcopal Church from 1857 to 1982.

Her husband, Howard Wright Haines, and her oldest daughter, Martha Haines Luckenbill, both preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Louise Haines-Sherman, Shawnee Mission, Kansas; two sons, Thomas Bodley Haines , Flagler Beach, Florida, and Howard Bodley Haines, Norman, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Irene Bodley Haines passed away on September 8, 2001, at The Sweet Life at Shawnee, missing her goal of reaching her 100th birthday by fifteen days.

Irene was the only child of O Clayton Bodley and Lavina Boltz Bodley. She attended Kansas City, Kansas High School and Kansas University, and married Howard Wright Haines in 1922. They worked together in the Kansas City, Kansas, banking business for over thirty-five years. Irene was active in numerous music, community and patriotic organizations throughout her life. She was a seventy-nine year member of the Wyandot Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Regent of the Chapter multiple terms and also serving as a State officer. She was a lifelong member of St Paul's Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Kansas, and served as church historian. Irene authored a book on the history of St Paul's Church from 1857 to 1982.

Irene was predeceased by her husband, Howard, and her oldest daughter, Martha Haines Luckenbill.

Surviving Irene are daughter, Louise Haines-Sherman of Shawnee Mission, and sons, Thomas Bodley Haines and wife Socorro of Flagler Beach, Florida, and Howard Bodley Haines and wife Cleo of Norman, Oklahoma. She leaves to carry on her love and caring for others twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to offer our heartfelt thanks to the owners and staff of The Sweet Life at Mission Springs and The Sweet Life at Shawnee, for helping Irene through her final years on earth. Their attention, compassion and love for Irene added years and quality to her life.

Visitation will be 6:30-8 pm Tuesday, September 11, at The Butler-Fulton-Nickel Funeral Home, 22 S 18th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services will be held 1 pm Wednesday, September 12, at St Paul's Episcopal Church, 18th Street & Washington. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Irene requested no flowers. Charitable contributions in her honor may be made to St Paul's Food Pantry, Wyandotte County Lion's Club, or to the charity of your choice.
