On 9.4.1770, married Ann Ruddell (died June 15, 1795) and they lived near the town of Ruddle, later moving to Tygart's Valley, where 3 forts were erected for protection against the indians. Served in the northern army raised by State of Virginia to subjugate the indian tribes north of the Ohio River in 1774, under the command of Lord Dunmore.

Benjamin later married Phoebe Davidson on 12.15.1795. She died 6.24.1849.
