Nedra Collene (Mullins) Gates

Nedra Collene (Mullins) Gates, 97, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away March 18, 2008 at Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville.

Born November 2, 1910, near Downing, Missouri, she was the daughter of Ollie and Josephine (Yore) Mullins. On October 4, 1936, Nedra was united in marriage to Pearl E. "Toots" Gates who preceded her in death on April 30, 1987.

Nedra was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Greta Mullins Natwick, her step-father, Roy Gregory and her step-mother, Pauline Mullins.

She is survived by one half-brother, Bobbie Mullins and wife, Marge, of Gibbs, MO; one step-sister, Corinne Thrasher of Memphis, MO; one step-brother, Leon Spray of Cedar Rapids, IA and one step-daughter, Helen Randall and husband, Ray of Santa Fe Springs, CA.

Nedra was a graduate from the Downing High School with the Class of 1929. Nedra and her husband lived all of their married life in Ottumwa, Iowa, where she was employed at Morrell Company and J.C. Penney. After her retirement she volunteered in the activities department at River Hills Care Center. She was a member of the East End Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and was a member of Miriam Chapter of Guild. Nedra was also a member of the International Order of Kings' Daughters and Sons. After moving to Kirksville, Missouri, in 1988 she became an associate member of the First United Methodist Church and was an RSVP volunteer.

Services were held March 20th at Shrine of Memories in Ottumwa, IA.
