Francis Marion Rakestraw (1847-1911) is the son of Milton Rakestraw (c.1825-1855) and Mary Susan Henderson. Francis served in Company B, 13th Indiana Cavalry in the Civil War. His discharge papers list him as being 5'6" tall, light complected, with hazel eyes and light hair. He was a fisherman at the time of his enrollment. Francis married Mary Elizabeth Gilliland (1849-1935) on October 22, 1867 in Floyd County, Indiana. Francis and Mary had two children, Zerilda Eleanora (1868-1894) and George William (1873-1935). Zerilda is buried in Fairview Cemetery, New Albany, Indiana (her tombstone reads Ellen N. Springer) and George is buried in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky.
