Mrs. Mildred J. Pitts, 91, was born Thursday, March 10, 1921 in Wayne County and died Friday, March 30, 2012 at her residence in Waynesboro. She was a lifelong member of West Shady Grove Baptist Church, and was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Mrs. Pitts was preceded in death by her husband, Homer "Jack" Pitts; 3 sons, Homer Earl Pitts, Jerold Avery Pitts and James Michael Pitts; 2 grandsons, Harold Avery Pitts and Larry Scott Lawrence. She is survived by her son, Richard Pitts (Billye J.) of Waynesboro; 3 daughters, Nettie June Lawrence (Theron) of Kentucky, Lilly Joan Smith (Charles) of Hurley, Judith Elizabeth Roberts (Tommy) of Waynesboro; daughter-in-law, Pat Pitts of Waynesboro; sister, Emma Merle Loper of Strengthford; 15 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren and 24 Great-Great Grandchildren. Visitation for Mrs. Pitts will be held from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Sunday, April 1, 2012 in the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, April 2, 2012 from the West Shady Grove Baptist Church in Waynesboro with Rev. Ervin Mooney and Rev. Mitchell Smith officiating. Interment will be in West Shady Grove Cemetery.
