Siamon Samuel "Sime" Hollis was the second child of Samuel J. Hollis and Nancy Jane Snider. He was born September 4, 1866 in Orange County, Texas. He married Frances Ella Mericle on February 12, 1886 in Trinity County, Texas. They had fourteen children: William Allen, Raymond Melvin, Angenette "Nettie", Emma Lou "Emmer", Mervin, Viola, Simmie, Mary, Harvey, Bessie May, Mintie Margaret, Silous, Samuel J. "Sammie" and Nancy Jane "Cricket". After some hard years Sime became a successful farmer with several tenant farmers and hired men on his place; he also ran a busy syrup mill. The family was finally enjoying some financial security, with a fine carriage, a telephone and phonograph in their home and some money in the bank. But then tragedy struck, when Sime died during the Spanish Flu Epidemic in 1918, passing away on December 27th of that year, aged 52 years.
