Mr. Melvin David (Mel) Robinson, Sr., 71, of Route 1, Box 108, St. Matthews, died Thursday, August 28, 1997, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30, at West End Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Poole officiating. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home of Orangeburg was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Robinson was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Melvin Washington Robinson, Jr. and Alma Golson Robinson. He was former manager of Central Grain Company of Cameron and a retired farmer. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge #897, and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ann Wannamaker Robinson of the home; three sons, Melvin David Robinson, Jr., of St. Matthews, William Theodore Robinson of Pinopolis and Edward Wannamaker Robinson of Summerville; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen R. Goodson of Ulmer, and Mrs. Jean R. Westendorff of Hanahan; and four grandchildren, Jack Robinson and Yates Robinson of Summerville, and Julie Robinson and Paige Robinson of Pinopolis.
