John William Rice of Sandwich, formerly of Yorkville passed away January 5, 2009 at Sandwich Rehabilitation and Heath Care.

He was born on August 24, 1926 in Aurora. He married Shirley Jean Mason on January 25, 1952 in Aurora. He worked in the paper/box industry until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for several years and was an avid woodcrafter and loved fishing. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Yorkville; his children, Dr. Charles (Sue) Rice, Mark (Kathy) Rice and Diane (Randy) Winders; eight grandchildren, Sarah Kenneth, Stephan Rebecca and Mark Rice, Cameron, Matthew and Tyler Winders; also six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Graveside services will be held January 9, 2009 at the Elmwood Cemetery Yorkville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe directed to Fox Valley VNA/ Hospice program.
