Silas Edward Thompson, son of Nathan Dixon and Elizabeth Morgan Thompson, was born August 22, 1888 in Earlham, Iowa and departed this life on March 25, 1968 at the age of 79 years, seven months and three days. He passed away at Des Moines General hospital after a short illness.
On April 22, 1916, Ed was joined in marriage with Verda Weaver of near Earlham, and to this union were born four children: Harold, Floyd, Opal and Ruby.
Ed spent nearly all of his life in Earlham vicinity. He was a carpenter by trade and helped construct many Earlham establishments and homes. He engaged in this work all of his life, until his retirement several years ago.
Ed was associated with the Earlham Friends church and was a member of the Odd Fellows.
He is survived by his wife, Verda; three children, Harold and his wife, Betty of Adel; Floyd and his wife, Scharlotte of Adel; Opal and her husband, Howard of West Des Moines: eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister, and an infant daughter, Ruby.
