John Henry Smoot, fourth child of Joseph Henry Smoot and Rosa Lee Seay Smoot was the only child born in Fayette County, West Virginia, while his father was working there in the coal mines.

He married Grace Roetta Sandridge on Jan 2, 1907.

Born to this union: one daughter Edith Myrtle.

John and Grace adopted a daughter: Margaret Mae Proffitt.

John's siblings were Celestine, Effie Lee, Lula D., Hattie Eva, Rosa Nell, Anna Gay, Joseph Eldred, Rufus Clayton, Rufus Carl, Richard Napoleon and {James Howard} raised by Joseph Henry and Rosa Lee.

John Henry was a Linesman for Virginia Railway and Power Company before becoming a Streetcar Conductor.

John was shot and killed by his wife Grace at their home in the early morning hours with one bullet to the right temple. Grace doesn't deserve to be connected to John.

John's headstone was purchased by his siblings.

John Henry was my great uncle.
