The Barrera Family was from Laredo in Webb County.That's where Tomas was born, before the family moved to San Antonio.
Tomas and Herlinda Muth were married 15 April 1967 in San Antonio when they were both 17 years old.
Tomas enlisted in the Marines 13 November 1967, at the San Antonio Recruiting Office.
After boot camp at the San Diego MCRD and Infantry Training at Camp Pendleton, he was sent to Vietnam. Arriving in Vietnam 8 June 1968, Tomas was assigned as a Radio Man with Echo Company, 3rd Recon Battalion, 3rd Marine Division.
While the Recon Team was on a patrol heading towards LZ Stud, Tomas drowned when the team was attempting to cross the heavily flooded Khe Sui Soi River.
Tomas was married and served his country for 9 months and 23 days and KIA #32,543.
He had been in Vietnam for 2 months and 28 days.
Tomas was 18 years, 10 months and 24 days old.
Survived by his wife; Herlinda Muth Barrera and and his daughter; Cynthia (that he never knew) and his parents; Tomas and Lilia Sosa Bernal Jr all of 143 Toltec Ct, San Antonio, Texas.

He was buried 30 September 1968 with full
military honors.
