Mrs. Jane Story was born in Peru, St. Lawrence County, New York on September 2, 1829 and died July 10, 1913, aged 83 years, 10 months and 8 days.

Her parents, Stephen Ansell of London, England, and Jane (York) Ansell of Yorkshire, England, emigrated to America, and when Mrs. Story was a child they moved from Peru, New York, to Riga, Monroe County, New York, where her father died June 13, 1850, leaving a widow and 10 children.

Jane the oldest daughter, was married to Leonard Hallet, March 27, 1867, and came with her husband to his farm in Johnson township, LaGrange County, where she resided until her death. To Mr. and Mrs. Hallet were born two children, Catherine M, who survives and a son who died in infancy. Mr. Hallet died January 8, 1872.

Mrs. Hallet was united in marriage with O.B. Story on July 19, 1877. Mr. Story died July 5, 1903.

Mrs. Story lived the simple life, observing strictly the golden rule. She was a kind and affectionate mother and lived and died at peace with all her acquaintances and neighbors.

None knew her but to love her. None named her but to praise.

She is survived by her only daughter, Mrs. Catherine M. Machan, and their daughter, Wilma J. Machan; and by three brothers, William Ansell of Springfield, Illinois, Henry Ansell of Rochester, New York, and Stephen Ansell of East Smithfield, Pennsylvania; and by three sisters, Mrs. Anna Ransom of Rochester, New York, Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts of LaGrange, and Mrs. Mary A. Hoffman of York, Pennsylvania. These three sisters and a brother-in-law, J.C. Hoffman, and Mrs. Samuel Machan were present at her deathbed.

Those in attendance at the funeral from a distance were: W.F. Roberts of Elkhart, Mr. And Mrs. Harry Minnich, Fort Wayne, Chancey Mills, son and daughter of Howe.

Mrs. Jane Story, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Machin, on July 10, 1913 after a short illness following a stroke of apoplexy Sunday afternoon. She was 84 years old.

Mrs. Story was a pioneer woman of the county, well known, and her death will be mourned by a host of friends over the county.

Mrs. Story is survived by one daughter, Mrs. James Machin, and three sisters, one of them Mrs. William Roberts of this county.

Her husband preceded her in death several years ago.
