Romie H. Hinson was born 12-1-1884 in Houston Co., TN. He moved to Beaumont, TX in 1906 where he went into the contracting business. After serving in the Army in WW I, he moved to Muskogee, OK in 1919 and joined the Muskogee Police in 1929.

By 1934 he was serving as a plainclothes officer. Two days after his fiftieth birthday, he and his partner were serving on "short call", the first unit scheduled to respond to calls on Monday, December 3,1934. About 8:45 a.m. that day, they were sent to investigatge a minor traffic accident. Upon arriving at the scene, they found was a minor one and htat the two drivers became involved in a heated argument.

The officers instructed the two accidnet victimes to go to the police station to officially report the accident to the desk sergeant. One driver went to the station and hte other began arguing with the officers and refusing to go to the police station. Officer Hinson placed him under arrest. As he started to put theh prisoner in the back seat of the police car, the prisoner borke, turned and ran back to his car. As Hinson started to pull the prisioner out of his car, the prisoner produced a revolver and shot Hinson once in the chest. Hinson, shot throuth both lungs, died on the morning of 12-9-1934.
