Memorial services for Clara Ann Matthews, 69 of Tahlequah, Ok will be held at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Tahlequah with Rev. Ronnie Rice officiating. Interment will be a private cremation. Clara was born June 25, 1936, at White Salmon, Wa., the daughter of Clarence and Harriet (Rosenberg) Borglund. Clara passed from this life, with her son Matthew and friend Christ, at her side on Thursday, April 13, in Wilton Manors, Fl.
Clara grew up in Ponce De Leon, Fl attending elementary and secondary schools, including Ponce De Leon High School.
She married Roxie Cookson Keys, in 1951. Clara graduated from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah in 1976, with a BA, and in 1984, with a MS, in Elementary Education. Clara taught at Kansas Elementery, for the past 19 years, and retired from teaching. Clara had taught Chapter I classes, Kindergarten, and 5th and 6th grade Science, from 1979-1998. While attending college Clara worked as a library aide, in the circulation department at NSU. She was also employed by Keus School, at Keys, in Park Hill, Ok. as a head start aide. Clara's other employment included Greenwood Elementery, from 1972-1976, Tsa-La-Gi Restaurant from 1976-1977, Elegant Farmer Resturant from 1976-1982, Big Red's Resturant from 1991-1995, and at Braums from 1995-2000.
Clara was a dedicated teacher, a source of encouragement to her students, faculty, freinds, and also her family. You never saw Clara without a smile or any words of discouragement from her. Her children and grandchildren will miss her greatly around the holidays with her delicious cooking, her gardening--she loved to do, but most of all her hugs and kisses. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Clara was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Ann Fannin and one son, Justin Roy Keys; and two brothers, Lawrence Borglund of Forest Grove, OR and Bill Borglund, of De Funiak Springs, Fl. Her parents, Clarence and Harriet Borglund.
Survivors include; one sister Joyce Caswell, of De Funiak Springs, FL, two daughters Virginia and Jimmy James, of Tahlequah and Peggy Keys of Tahlequah, five sons, Roxie and Kathy Keys, of Rowlett, TX, Dale and Cody Keys, of Park Hill; David Keys of Wagoner; and Matthews Keys, and Chris Wisehart of Wilton Manors, FL. 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild, her many nieces and nephews, relatives, friends, and loved ones.
