George was born and raised in Carroll County, Arkansas. He owned and ran a barber-shop in Green Forest, but he sold it and moved to Oklahoma with his wife, Lillie, and children, George Amon and surviving daughter, Rexie Ardena, to become a farmer. His youngest son, William Ross, was born in Okmulgee County, where George Washington and Lillie stayed until their deaths.
[His first-born child, a baby girl, Nola, died only hours after her birth (1909-1909) and was buried in an unknown location there in Green Forest.]

This is his marriage announcement from the newspaper in Green Forest, Ark on 30 Aug 1907:
George Shipman arrived here from Texas two weeks ago with a glowing smile, which his friends attributed to his prosperity in the Lone Star state and a manifestation of his pleasure at meeting old haunts. Few people suspected that he had come here for the purpose of claiming the heart and hand of one of our popular young ladies, but circumstances go to prove that such was the object of George's mission here at this time. On Wednesday of last week a ceremony was performed at the home of Eld. Martin, the contracting parties being George Shipman and Miss Lillie Tabor, daughter of James Tabor. The happy couple will make their home at Celina, Texas, where Mr. Shipman is engaged in farming. The best wishes of the community follow them.

Gravesite Details

Headstone is mostly buried and made of rough aggregate so hard to photograph. I dug it up for this photo and reburied it afterwards.
