Mrs. Addie E. Jasper, for many years a well known and respected resident of this community, passed away Sunday, January 5th, 1919. Her death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Bowersmith in this city, and followed an illness of about ten years. She had been confined to her bed for about eight months, with paralysis and other infirmities of advanced age.
Addie Magruder was born in Amherst County, Virginia, December 3, 1833, making her age at death 85 years, 1 month, and 2 days. She was united in marriage November 11, 1849, at Washington D. C. to Mr. Daniel S. Jasper, who preceded her to the grave many years ago. To this union ten children were born, only three of whom survive her, namely, W. W. Jasper, of Butte City, California, and Mrs. Abbie Bowersmith and W. T. Jasper of Brunswick. Mrs. Jasper also leaves one sister, Mrs. Oliva Sanders of Triplett, and three brothers, W. T. and E. A. Magruder of Brunswick, and W. W. Magruder of Leasburg, Mo. Nine grandchildren also survive.
At the age of fourteen, Mrs. Jasper united with the M. E. Church, South, and to the last remained a true and loyal member of that church.
During the ten years she was racked with pain and suffering she was sustained by a constant and abiding faith through which she bore her sufferings with patience and Christian fortitude, ever looking forward with confidence to that Bright Beyond, where suffering and pain are unknown.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. O. G. Potter, pastor of the Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon and burial was in Elliott Grove Cemetery.
