Edward M. Midcalf, 95, Dies Tuesday

One of the older citizens of our community, Edward M. Midcalf, passed away at his home in the north part of Martinsville at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Greenwell Funeral Home with the Rev. George Nika officiating. Burial will be in Medsker cemetery.

Obituary:

Edward M. Midcalf was born July 12, 1858, at Melrose, Illinois, and departed this life on August 11, 1953, being 95 years and 30 days of age.

In 1880 he was united in marriage to Mary V. Thompson who passed away February 11, 1908. To this union were born ten children: eight girls and two boys, three girls and one boy having preceded him in death. Those left to mourn his death are: one son, Wm. Edwin Midcalf of Martinsville; and five daughters, Mrs. Bertha Zimmerman of Martinsville, Mrs. Nancy D. Disher of Shipman, Illinois, Mrs. Minnie Higbee of West Palm Beach, Florida, Mrs. Mary V. Byrd of Godfrey, Illinois, Mrs. E. Grace Frillman of Washington, D. C.; also left are 35 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Early in life he became a member of the old Bethel Church now known as the Martinsville Bible church and retained his faith in God to the end.
