Charles J. Born Jr., 16, died Feb. 3 at Prineville.
He was born Nov. 3, 1986, at Pendleton to Charles J. and Kelly (McGirr) Born.
He was a sophomore at Long Creek High School, where he was an honor roll student and played and lettered in baseball, basketball and soccer.
During summer vacations he helped his grandfather put up hay and worked at his father's garage in Long Creek. Charlie enjoyed practical jokes and spending time with his friends. He loved to hunt, drive his truck into the hills, ride four-wheelers, snowmobiles and motorcycles. "Charlie was a rebel and a redneck and loved the South."
Charlie is survived by his father, Charles J. Born of Long Creek; mother, Kelly McGirr of Fox; sisters, Amanda Born of Fox and Stephenie Lewis of Boise, Idaho; brother, Edward Lewis of John Day; paternal grandmother, Laverne Born of Fox; maternal grandfather, Bud McGirr of Long Creek; maternal grandmother, Brenda McGirr of Weiser, Idaho; maternal great-grandfather, Robert Kelly of Troutdale; and maternal great-grandmother, Melba Chronister of Moro.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Leland McGirr; grandfather, Chet Born; and great-grandmother, Mildred McGirr.
A graveside service was held Feb. 8 at Fox Cemetery.
