Robert and Betty Halligan

Robert "Bob" and Betty Halligan lived a very fulfilling life together in Ponca City for more than 58 years. On Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, Betty passed away, and Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, Bob passed away. He was 79 and she was 76.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael Seabaugh, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at the Longwood Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.
Bob was born in Coffeyville, Kan., on June 16, 1925. Betty was born in Ponca City on June 21, 1928. Bob moved to Ponca City where he met Betty and they married on Sept. 30, 1946, in Winfield, Kan. Bob served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II while Betty was still in school in Ponca City, where she graduated in 1946.
Bob was a welder who worked and traveled all over the United States. He was a master at his craft. After the "kids" were grown and gone, they spent much more time on the "road" together.
Bob retired in 1990 from the Pipe Fitters Local Union 798. Bob's passion for many years after his retirement was to keep his home and yard fastidiously maintained while Betty watched and supervised. They lived their life together the way they wanted, and some would think died together exactly as they wanted so they wouldn't have to be apart. Bob was a long-standing member of the Masonic Lodge, and Betty was a member of the Eastern Star.
They are survived by one daughter, Pat Halligan Vince and her husband Greg of Lakewood, Colo.; one son, Mike Halligan and his wife Jo of Georgetown, Texas; three grandchildren, Anissa McDaniel, Becky Halligan, and Lindsay Halligan, all of Austin, Texas; and one great-granddaughter, Brittany.
Betty is also survived by two brothers, Galen Madderra and Doyle "John" Madderra; and seven sisters, Billie Elkins, Delores Watson, Sue Dent, Glenna Avey, Nancy Barnes, Linda Moncrief and Jan Sensintaffar.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father, Emma Clark and James Halligan; one sister, Helen Tucker; a one brother, James Halligan; and a brother, Forrest Halligan.
Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ruby Fancher Madderra and Ray Madderra.
Casket bearers will be Lyle Watson, Rick Watson, George Elkins, Brandon Sensintaffar, Chris Larson and Zack Larson
Honorary casket bearers will be Howard Watson, Bob Elkins, Eddie Barnes, Garland Dent and Buddy Klumpp.
