Donald Everett Boyer, 90, of John Day, died Aug. 23 in Prairie City.

A graveside service was held Aug. 27 at the Canyon City Cemetery with the John Day Elks Lodge #1824 and the Baker City Masonic Lodge #47 officiating.

Mr. Boyer was born Jan. 4, 1914, in Heppner to Guy and Clara (May) Boyer. In 1926 he moved with his family to a ranch in Monument for an estimated six years before moving to Mt. Vernon.

He spent all of his life in Grant County; predominantly in John Day and Mt. Vernon. During the great depression he roomed with his aunt, Ethel Bartlett, in Eugene while attending Eugene High School, graduating in 1939, and a term at the University of Oregon.

Mr. Boyer married Estella Marie Carter Nov. 25, 1936, in Canyon City. Their only daughter was born in 1941. Estella was tragically killed in a car accident in Aug. of 1959. He then married Elsa Hammond Oct. 21, 1961, until her death in 1986.

He loved his family, his country and everthing Grant County had to offer. He loved horses and teaching youngsters how to ride.

Mr. Boyer served in the Army in 1940-41, belonged to the Elks, Masons and Shriners.

He announced at various rodeos and the Grant County Fair parades in John Day.

Survivors include his daughter, Martha Jane Saunders of Redmond; sister, Jane Moody of Blondell of Canby; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
