Eugene B. Edmiston, 88, of Bellwood went to be with the Lord Friday at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, who were at his side.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Roy and Nina (Whiteman) Edmiston. He married Helen G. Dengate on Dec. 26, 1942, in Bellwood. She preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 2006.

Surviving are his sons: Franklin E. and wife, Sue, of Riggles Gap, and Ronald L. and wife, Becky, of New Kingston, N.H.; daughters: Constance J. Isenberg of Flinton and Colleen J. Saullo and husband, Richard, of Altoona; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many extended grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Allen "Lindy" Edmiston of Cumberland, Md.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Darren, in 1998; and six brothers and sisters.

Eugene retired as a carpenter at Conrail after 38 years of service. He was also owner of Edmiston Refrigeration, Bellwood, since 1951.

He was an Army veteran serving during World War II as a staff sergeant.

He was awarded three Bronze Stars for his valor during the Battle of the Bulge in Rhineland, Germany, and D-Day in Normandy.

Eugene was a member of New Life Assembly of God, Pinecroft. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, doing crossword puzzles and helping his family, neighbors and friends.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Henry Shaffer officiating.

Interment at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood, with military honors.

In remembrance of Eugene, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Blair Unit, or The Door in Bellwood.
