JOHN DENIGER SUCCUMBS
Prominent Farmer, Businessman and Politician Died at Home of Son Monday Night

John Deniger, prominently associated with the business and farming interests of this section for many years passed away in death at the home of his son Henry in the town of Westford at 7:15 p.m. Monday at the age of 74 years.

The deceased was one of Dodge county's oldest and best known farmer residents, a veteran of the War of Rebellion and former county treasurer. Mr. Deniger had been in failing health the past few months, but his sudden death was unlooked for by friends and relatives, he having been seriously ill but a few hours.

He was born in Bavaria, Germany, on December 27, 1848, and when a child of four years came with his parents to this country and settled in this vicinity. Since then he had continued to reside with the exception of brief intervals, continuously on the farm in the town of Westford. When sixteen years of age Mr. Deniger enlisted in the army of the north, becoming a member of Co. D, 37th Wisconsin Volunteers. He served with his unit for a period of two and a half years and was honorably discharged at the close of the war.

Following his discharge from service, he returned here and in 1873 was united in marriage with Miss Regina Tischler of this place, who many years ago preceded him in death. Of the eleven children born to this union, two died in infancy and the following nine survive to mourn the loss of a kind and provident father: Joseph W. of this city; George T., of Montana; Fred, of this city; Henry H. and Arthur, town of Westford; Mrs. John Fischer, Mrs. Bert O'Rourque and Mrs. Fred Perkins, Aberdeen, S. D.; and Mrs. Minnie Tousek of Juanita, S. D. One brother, Joseph Deniger of this city, also survives.

Always a leader whenever he was active, Mr. Deniger served as alderman from the Second ward of this city, supervisor, chairman of the Town Board and county Treasurer. Although he devoted the greater part of his life to farm interests, Mr. Deniger was at the time of his death an officer of the Badger Canning company of this city and a director of the Farmers State Bank. Mr. Deniger was an earnest Christian and a faithful member of St. Peter's congregation of this city, where funeral services were held at 9:30 o'clock this morning, with burial in St. Peter's cemetery. The services were in charge of his pastor, Rev. Fr. George J. Muenzer.

The Argus joins with his many friends and acquaintances in extending its sympathy to the members of his family and other relatives.
