physician of Eliska, died last Wednesday morning in the Turberville Hospital at Century, where he had gone earlier in the week for treatment.
Dr. Cole was a native of Louisiana. In early life he came with his parents to settle on the Baldwin side of Little River. Later he came to the county and for the past 46 years practiced medicine in the Mount Pleasant and adjoining communities. He also operated a large plantation and mercantile business.
He always had a leading part in every movement for the welfare of his community and county. He was a charter member of the Monroe County Medical Society and was a member of Monroe Lodge, A.F.A.M.
In his passing, the county has lost one of its most loyal and highly esteemed citizens.
Surviving are his widow, five daughters, Mrs. J. M. English, of Allenton; Mrs. Ezra Skinner, of Monroeville; Misses Elizabeth Marie and Dorothy Cole, of Eliska; four sons, D. D. Cole, of Mobile; C. W. Cole, of Monroeville; J. R. Cole, of Atmore, and Joseph R. Cole, of Tucson, Arizona; four grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at Little River Baptist church Thursday afteroon at 4 o'clock, Rev. Theo Harris, of Birmingham, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Masonic honors.
