Born in Dayton, Ohio to Robert McMurray, who settled in on a farm in Allen County (Washington Twp, Auglaize Co.)in 1844. THey then moved to Campbell Co., Kentucky until the father died. The family returned to Auglaize County, settling in St. Marys. He became a captain in the civil war, and married Isora Holbrook in 1868. He was admitted to the bar, became postmaster of Wapakoneta in 1865, County recorder for 2 terms and Mayor of Wapakoneta in 1875. (Obit - The Wapakoneta Bee, 4-4-1878)
