Doris Jean Armstrong was born June 30, 1937 in Crookston, MN, to Frank and Alma (Magsam) Armstrong of Euclid, MN. Doris attended Brandt School in rural Euclid and after moving to rural Thief River Falls in 1951, she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955.

Doris was united in marriage to Lloyd VeVea in Angus, MN, January 6, 1956. Dory was employed at Gamble-Robinson and Tunberg Motors and then went to work for Union State Bank, where she enjoyed a very dedicated and successful career of 36 years. She was honored with "Dory VeVea Day" at the bank in recognition for her many years of loyal service.

Dory and Lloyd were a well known couple in the Thief River Falls community. Through their many years of marriage, they could often be seen together dining in the local restaurants and visiting with their many friends. Dory and Lloyd loved to entertain in their home, as well, and entertained many visitors there. Dory was a great cook, specializing in bars and dessert's. Along the way, Dory started doing counted cross stitch, and developed outstanding skills, resulting in her work being known far and wide, with customers ranging from Washington, DC to the West Coast. She received many accolades from people who also did needlepoint in recognition of her accomplishments.

In later years, when Lloyd's health began to seriously decline, she stood by him and insisted on caring for him in their home to the very end, even when many other people would have given up and place him in an assisted living facility because of the extremely difficult chores in caring for him. Lloyd died at home November 28, 2002. The love and support she showed to Lloyd was an amazing example of the kind of person Dory was, but this trait was also demonstrated through the many acts of love, dedication and support she showed to her family and friends. She never wavered in her quest to help others, and because of this, she touched the lives of many people.

In the spring of 2005, Dory started seeing Sam Cork, another long time resident of Thief River Falls. They instantly developed a fondness for each other and a strong bond. They spent almost every day together and were looking forward to a future of good times enjoying each other's company. But in November 2005, Dory was diagnosed with lung cancer. Sam remained an extremely loyal companion, by taking her for treatments and doing whatever he could to cheer her by making her laugh and insisting that she didn't get depressed. Suddenly, in January 2006, Sam died unexpectedly. This was a tremendous loss for Dory and both families as her health continued to decline.

Dory was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, United Way and the Care Givers group. She enjoyed counted cross stitch, care giving, baking bars and the church choir.

Dory is survived by 2 children, Sharon (Carl) Ivey, Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada and Kathy (Joe) Trimbach, Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Carrie (Bradley) Wicks, St. Louis, MO, Patrick (Jane) VeVea, St. Louis Park, MN, Dan Trimbach, St. Louis Park, MN, Jesse Trimbach, Seattle, WA, adopted granddaughter, Darcie (Jason) Roden; great grandchildren, Kyle and Kendra Wicks, St. Louis, MO, David and Megan VeVea, St. Louis Park, MN and Elise Roden; sister, Janice (Duane) Olson, Thief River Falls, MN; brothers, Don (Vera) Armstrong, Grand Haven MI and Ron (Jan) Armstrong, Rockville, MD; aunts, Emma Armstrong, Fargo, ND, Kathleen Magsam, Bemidji, MN and Edna Magsam, Baldwin, WI along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
