Miss Alice May Cutler Age 89.
Our beloved aunt Alice May Cutler was born December 21, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She passed away peacefully January 21, 2009 due to causes incident to age.
May was the seventh of eight children born to Ralph and Virginia Burton Cutler.
She was educated at University of Utah (BA 1947) and Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, TN (MA 1956). She taught elementary school in Utah but spent the majority of her professional career in Champaign, Illinois as an Art Consultant for the Champaign School District. She also served for several years on the Illinois Art Education Board.
A dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served two full-time proselyting missions for the church (Eastern States 1949-1951; California Arcadia 1983-1985) and two stake missions.
She loved her service as an ordinance worker in the Washington D.C. Temple and in the Jordan River Temple. She served in many church callings during her life and was often called upon to work with the youth. In later years, she especially loved name extraction and other family history work.
Aunt May was a wonderful aunt. She kept the extended Cutler family active and organized and loved her nieces, nephews and their families. She loved camping, hiking and had a great sense of humor. Aunt May was an accomplished author. She wrote three family biographies that have made her family aware of their remarkable heritage and left a legacy of faith and testimony.
May is preceded in death by her parents and siblings and several nephews. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
A family gathering to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 11:00 am. in the Winder 9th Ward Chapel 1475 East Murray-Holladay Road (4700 South).
