Carroll Brinson, 87, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at the State Veterans Home in Jackson, Miss.

Visitation is 5 - 7:30 p.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street and 9 a.m. Thursday at St. James Episcopal Church.

A funeral mass will be said 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with entombment in Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Brinson was a Native of Monticello.

He was a graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., where he was a Member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

After serving as Brinson Air Navigations Officer with the Navy during World War II, he joined Marks & Neese Advertising Agency (later Gordon Marks & Company). He received the Silver Medal Award from the Advertising Club of Mississippi and the Advertising s Federation of America for creative excellence and service to his community. He was past president of the Advertising Club of Mississippi.

He worked for many years as a Volunteer in promoting the arts in Jackson. He served on the boards of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Association, the Jackson Opera Guild as its chairman, Jackson Civic Arts Council as president. He was a long time Board Member of the American Red Cross.

After retiring from Gordon Marks, he launched his second career with the publication of his first book, "The First Fifty/The Story of Deposit Guaranty National Bank" His second book, "Jackson, A Special Kind of Place" was written as a Bicentennial project of the City of Jackson. Other books were "The Stuart C. Irby Company", "Always a Challenge: Mississippi Power & Light Company's First Sixty Years", "A Tradition of Looking Ahead" The Story of Bryan Foods", "More Than a Good Businessman: The Story of Warren Hood", "Our Time Has Come: Mississippi Embraces Its Future", "A Tradition of Caring: Mississippi Baptist Medical Center's First Eighty Years", and "Arthur C. Guyton: His Life, His Family, His Achievements". Mr. Brinson is fisted in the 21st edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, a publication of Who's Who in America.

He was a former Member and Director of the Rotary Club of Jackson and a Paul Harris Fellow of that organization.

He was a communicant of St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral.

Survivors include: Wife, the former Barbara Henry of Jackson; Son, Thomas Carroll Brinson of Islip, N Y.; Daughters, Barbara Marie Brinson, Kate Houston and Meg Outlaw, all of Jackson, and Beth Brinson of Waynesville, N. C.; two Grandsons; six Granddaughters: and two Great Grandsons.

Pallbearers are Jonas Outlaw, David Crenshaw, Bryan Houston,Chris Green, John Anderson Jr., John Gwaltney, Steve Smith and Joe Daly.
Honorary Pallbearers are Herman Hines, Tommy Walker, Fred Ezelle, Joe Daniel. Charles Sewell, Earnest McLaurin, Arthur Guyton, Warren Hood, Chip Bowman, Earle Jones, Phil Irby, Calvin Wells and Kirk Taylor.
