The son of George & Lovina (Harman) Wollet, in 1860 he was a laborer presumably living in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, although he is not found in that census. He stood 5' 10" tall and had light hair and light eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Carlisle October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service at Chambersburg November 1 as a private with Co. A, 158th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company August 12, 1863. He also enlisted in Harrisburg September 1, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 6 as a corporal with Co. A, 209th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 31, 1865. Both the cemetery list in Tombstone Transcriptions and his tombstone itself erroneously claim that he served with the 202nd Pennsylvania Infantry.

After the war, he married Sarah "Sallie" Fellows and fathered Anna (b. 12/20/60 - married Augustus Krebs), Sarah Elizabeth (b. 03/19/62 - married Fleming G. Keckler), John F. (b. 03/01/68), Ida L. (b. 03/20/70 - married a May), Henry G. "Harry" (b. 04/17/72), Chester A. (b. 03/31/75), Cora M. (b. 1878 - married Harry J. Gruber), and Emma J. (b. 07/24/82 - married John O. Hoops). In 1890, he lived in Steelton, Dauphin County, but died at his daughter's home in Harrisburg at age 68-1-14 from "cardiac asthma" with "pleuri [sic] pneumonia" a contributing factor. His death certificate claims February 26 as his birthday, but the calculated date is used here.
