Mr. Crooks, widely known in the county, was born here February 13, 1878 and was a son of the late Robert A. and Martha Elder Crooks. He was married June 28, 1898, to Sara Dixon, who preceded him in death in 1951.
Mr. Crooks was a member of the Methodist Church of Clarion, Clarion Lodge of Masons and the Coudersport Consistory of Coudersport. Mr. Cooks had banking interests and at one time was president of the Citizens Trust Company, now the First Seneca Bank and Trust Company. For more than 40 years he operated the F.L. Crooks and Company men's clothing store located in the Wilson building, where his brother James M. Crooks and son now operate a man's store.
Mr. Crooks, along with the late Oliver H. Culbertson and the late Frank A. Hess owned and operated the Clarion Hotel, which was destroyed by fire in 1941.
Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Edna Phero of Clarion; brothers James M. Crooks of Clarion and Harold Crooks of Falls Creek. Children surviving are Mrs. Blanda Hara of Altoona; Mrs. Ethel Hutchison of Philadelphia; Robert Crooks of Clarion and Mrs. Frances Hazelton of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Removal was made to the Globe Funeral Home where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and attend service at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. James Cox, pastor of the Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Clarion Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
