Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck, MN, with the Rev. Dan Heath officiating. A visitation will be held at Cease Family Funeral Home in Blackduck on Friday, January 16th, 5-7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. and Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will at Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck, MN. Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck is assisting the family with arrangements.

Casketbearers will be Kelly Johnson, Corey Gross, Josh Zeigler, Chad Magoon, Brad Townsend, and Jim Ness.

Gerald "Jerry" Ervin Magoon, 71, of Blackduck, Minnesota passed away on January 13, 2009 at the Merit Care Hospital in South Fargo, North Dakota

Jerry was born on July 7, 1937 to Ervin and Naomi (Olson) Magoon in Bemidji, MN. He attended Lincoln Elementary School and Bemidji High School. He went to work at Skimes Locker Plant in Nymore in 1953. He then worked for Red Owl Stores from 1955 to 1965. He worked in Hibbing, Duluth, Wadena, and Bemidji, and as a relief meat manager for many other Red Owl Stores.

He married Alice Pederson in 1959 at Fosston, MN and they had 3 children, Sherry (Mike) Mistic, Scott (Jackie) Magoon, and Tracy (Herman) Dudley.

In 1965 the family moved to Kelso, Washington, where Jerry worked for Super Valu Stores in Longview, Kelso, and Woodland, Washington and Clatskanie, Oregon. In 1973 the family moved to Blackduck and bought the Summit Mercantile from Irvin and Chub Swanson. In 1989 they built Jerry's IGA on Highway 71. He continued to operate the store until July of 2001, when he sold to his son Scott and partner Charlie Anderson.

Jerry was a member of AAD Shrine Club of Duluth, Shrines of North America, Bemidji Lodge #233, a charter member of the Blackduck Lions Club and a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed his retirement spending time with family and friends and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchild. He also enjoyed grouse and duck hunting, fishing, yard work, and he loved mowing his beautiful lawn. Jerry was also a huge fan of Elvis Presley and has many Elvis Collectables.

He is survived by his wife, 3 children, Sherry (Mike) Mistic of Nebish, Scott (Jackie) Magoon of Blackduck and Tracy (Herman) Dudley of Bemidji; 6 grandchildren, Aricka, Ashley, Alisha, Chad, Casie, and Jamie and 1 great grandson, Nicholas; his mother, Naomi Colson of Bemidji, 3 brothers, Jim (Delores) Magoon of Kelso, WA, Dale (Mary) Magoon of Bemidji, and Ronald Magoon of Hastings; 6 sisters, Judy (David) Hoem of Bemidji, Joy (Chuck) Heller of Bemidji, Sharon (Lyle) Olson, Independence, Gail (Les) Mistic of Bemidji, Theresa (Mike) McKee of Bemidji, and Cindy (Roland) Lundmark of Shevlin.

He was preceded in death by his father Ervin and his grandparents.
