William Renwick Curry was born February 14, 1835, near Bloomington, Indiana, and died at his home near Winchester, Kansas, August 30, 1911. Mr. Curry was married to Miss Mary Kerr, September 21, 1858. They removed to Olathe, Kansas, in the autumn of 1869, and came to Winchester in the spring of 1869, where they have since lived. They were the parents of ten children, seven of whom survive. Three brothers and one sister also remain.
Mr. Curry was a life long member of the Reformed Presbyterian church, having been born in the denomination, and in early life having professed his faith in Christ. On February 3, 1873, Mr. Curry was chosen a ruling elder in the Winchester congregation and was ordained February 26. With honor and efficiency he performed the duties of that office from that date until the time of his death. He was a man of piety and sound judgment. In the church and session he will be greatly missed. And in his death Winchester has lost one of her most respected and public spirited citizens.
The funeral services were conducted August 31, 2 p.m. in the Reformed Presbyterian church by the pastor. The large auditorium and lecture room were filled, this vast concourse of people attesting the high respect and esteem in which Mr. Curry was held. He died in full assurance of faith in Christ. He rests from his labors and his works do follow him. For in the congregation and the mission fields of the church of his choice he has left forces to work for the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ.
