From 1932-1937, Clarence was a lion hunter of renown in Northern California. He killed 69 lions for their bounty, something he wasn't proud of later. In the 1950's, he founded Lassen Canyon Nursery in Redding. After the tragic death of Pat (1974) and Louise (1975), he sold the nursery and retired. He was an expert fly-fisher and in the 1960's started spending time at Big Lagoon to escape Redding's summer heat. There he spent time salmon fishing and clamming. He died in an automobile accident near his home in Redding.
