Vernease Hewitt Dowling McGill, 69, born c1928, of Nahunta, died Saturday afternoon, 24 Jan 1998, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross, following a brief illness,
A native of Horry County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Joseph W. Hewitt and Ruth Hardee Hewitt. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, George Parker Dowling, and a son, Michael Berle Dowling.

She was a homemaker and a member of Nahunta First Baptist church.
Survivors include her husband, Frank McGill of Nahunta; her son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Betty Dowling of Waycross; five grandchildren, Paul Dowling, Rebecca Knight, Bailey Dowling, Lindsey Joyner, and Payton Joyner; three brothers, T. J. Hewitt of Hampton, VA, Clarence Hewitt of Newport News, VA, and Lloyd Hewitt of Folkston; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, from Nahunta First Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Milton, Rev. Hugh Arnold and Rev. Doyle Hollingsworth officiating.
Interment followed in Knox Cemetery near Lulaton.
Music was by the church choir and Janet Griner. Songs were "It is Well with My Soul," "The Lord's Prayer, and Hallelujah Chorus"
Casketbearers were Danny Dowling, Dewaine Aldridge, Jimmy Herrin, Hymerick Thomas, Frank Mercer, Gene Ammons, J. O. Johns, and Kleve Mathie.
Chambless Funeral Home of Nahunta was in charge of arrangements.
