William Robert Baldwin was born October 7, 1886, in Manchester, TN, to John F. Baldwin and Mary J. Dennis Baldwin. He was a very popular, young businessman and was a member of the clothing firm of West, Baldwin & West, McMinnville, TN.

William ("Bill" as he was known) married Nellys Winton Cardwell on July 3, 1919, in McMinnville. They were living on S. High St in McMinnville and raising 2 young children at the time of his death. His children were Billie West Baldwin and Robert Leighton Baldwin. Bill was a solid member of the Church of Christ and lived a Christian life.

His death on May 1, 1926, was the result of blood poisoning due to his left arm being crushed by a car three weeks prior. He died at home which was also where his funeral was held. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery on May 3, 1926. Mr. Baldwin was 39 years old at the time of his death.
