Joy Ethel Johnston-Hall was born to William Franklin Johnston and Levicie Almedia Van Huss in Lee County Virginia. She married Robert Herman Hall and had three children, John M. Hall, Lyndelle R. Hall and Aubrey H. Hall. Her husband ran off not long after the birth of their last child and Joy ended up raising her family on her own in Lee County, eventually moving to Rose Hill Virginia. In the 1950's she worked in and then ran Catrons' Cafe in Rose Hill Virginia, serving many good meals to many people. Beginning in 1960 she lived with her children helping them raise her grandchildren. Most of the time was spent with her daughter, Lynn, and her family. She lived across the United States from California to Mass. as Lynn's husband, Ray Harber, served twenty years in the Air Force. During this time she was also a housekeeper and child-care giver.
