Lyle F. Groth, 72, died Thursday evening, June 10, 1999, in Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis., after a brief illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, St. Paul Lutheran Church, by the Rev. T. M. Marks. Burial: Postville Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Schutte Funeral Home, Postville, where a Masonic service begins at 7 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne; two daughters, Julie Brainard of Postville and Sharyl Farrall of Chickaloon, Alaska; a son, Greg of Chaparral, N.M.; a stepdaughter, Cathy Noecker of Cedar Rapids; two stepsons, Jeff Martins of Ormand Beach, Fla., and Steve Martins of Gainesville, Fla.; and a brother, Gene of Grand Marais, Minn.

Lyle Frederick Groth
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 15, for Lyle Frederick Groth, 72, who died Thursday, June 10, 1999 at Prairie du Chien (WI) Memorial Hospital. at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. T. M. Marks officiated. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery, and Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
The son of Frederick and Dorothy (Reincke) Groth, Lyle was born Nov. 24, 1926 in Postville. He graduated from Postville High School in 1944. Oct. 3, 1946 Lyle enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Force. He was listed as a bandsman and sang and played the trumpet in the military chorus and band. Following his military service, he worked in the family business, Groth Produce, which Lyle and his brother, Gene, purchased in 1959, and it became Groth Packing Company.
Dec. 25, 1948 he married Sally Ruckdaschel at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Lyle had been a member of Keystone Barber Shop Chorus and had played the trumpet in the Postville Drum and Bugle Corps which marched in many parades held in surrounding communities. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and had also been active in the community, serving on the City Planning and Zoning Committee and had maintained his membership in the Brotherly Love Masonic Lodge in Postville. In 1966 the business was sold and was then known as Iowa Turkey Products. Lyle was employed by the city of Postville as an engineer and also worked for Norplex in the same capacity. He had also been employed by Gene's Electric in Postville and Brown's Electric in Decorah.
Dec. 30, 1967 Lyle married Joanne (Grotegut) Martins at the chapel of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife Joanne; six children, Sharyl (Groth) and husband Mike Ferrall of Chickaloon, AK, Greg and wife Ruth of Chaparral, NM; Julie (Groth) and husband Roger Brainard of Postville; Cathy (Martins) Noecker of Cedar Rapids, Jeff and wife Katie Martins of Ormond Beach, FL, Steve and wife Betty Martins of Gainesville, FL; a daughter-in-law, Carol (Mrs. Craig Martins) and her husband Keith Kratzer of Washington; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Gene and Marie of Grand Marais, MN. A stepson, Craig Martins, preceded him in death. Casket bearers were Richard Schlee, Dr. R. F. Schneider, Thomas Hogan,Norman Delphy, John Kittleson, and Don Drahn.

The obituary is in error: Lyle had three children with first wife, Sally Ruckdaschel and no children with Joanne Martins. He had four step-children, the children of Joanne. He had five grandchildren, the others are step-grand-children. He had no great-grandchildren.
