Alvah Leonard, a well known retired farmer of Valparaiso, died Saturday morning, March 9, about 4 o'clock, of kidney disease. He had been ill for some time and a few weeks ago submitted to an operation, which seemed to help him for a time. A postmortem examination Saturday morning revealed a diseased state of the second kidney similar to the one operated upon.
Mr. Leonard came to this county from Ohio in the early 50's and has resided here ever since. He was a little past 73 years old and leaves a wife and two daughters. He was one of the best known residents of the county and quite well-to-do.
The funeral was held from the M. E. church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. M. H. Appleby was assisted by Rev. Samuel Beck and Dr. E. A. Schell, of Chicago.
