Stephen F. McChesney, son of John C. and Mary (Shepard) McChesney, was b. 1 Sep 1839, d. 28 Oct 1913, Rahway, NJ, buried Cedar Hill Cem., Hightstown, NJ.
Stephen enrolled for service in the Civil War on 1 Sep 1862 at Freehold, NJ, as private, Co. A, 28th Regt., NJ Inf. Vol., for 9 mos., and was mustered out with company at Freehold on 6 Jul 1863.
On 23 May 1912, he made a declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the act of May 11, 1912; he then stated that he was age 72, a resident of Rahway, NJ. He gave his personal appearance as follows: height 5' 2 1/2 ", dark complexion, dark eyes, light hair, harness maker by occupation. His birth date was given as 1 Sep 1839; his places of residence after leaving the service were Englishtown, NJ, Hightstown, NJ, Cranbury, NJ, and Rahway, NJ. At the time of making the declaration for a pension he already held pension certification #521,338. Susie McChesney (his dau.) was one of the witnesses to his signature.
