Pleasant DeLafayette Carter was born March 12, 1898 at Como, Panola County, Mississippi, the son of Marcus D. Carter and Florence Elizabeth Eckles Carter. He married Annie Marie Johnson, March 1, 1922.
Mr. Carter died at Oakville Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Memphis, Tennessee, December 30, 1947. He was a car inspector for the IC Railroad and later the NC & STL Railroad. He was also a farmer and a horseman. When he married, he was working for the South Memphis Stockyards breaking wild horses to the saddle.
He is interred in Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee.

P. D. Carter Sr., 695 S. Parkway East, car inspector for Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway, died at Oakville Sanatorium at 8:50 last night after more an a year's illness. He was 49. Mr. Carter ws born in Como, Miss., and worked for the Illinois Central Railroad in Memphis from 1917 to 1935. He farmed for a time in Eudora, Miss.. and at Tyronza, Ark., before returning to Memphis to work for the N. C. & St. L. some five years ago. He was a Baptist. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Marie Johnson Carter; his daughter, Mrs. Lee M. Lane, Memphis; three sons, P. D. Carter Jr., C. H. and Melvin Gene Carter, all of Memphis; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Carter, Memphis: two brothers, Maude and Guy Carter, Los Angeles, and seven sisters, Mrs. Coly Irby, Sikeston, Mo., and Mrs. Willard Thompson, Mrs. Walter Bledsoe, Mrs. Eleanore Pitts, Mrs. Robert Galbreth and Mrs. Fred McGrath and Mrs. Homer Alexander, all of Memphis. J. W. Norris Funeral Home in charge.
