John Chapman Henderson married Rebecca Eliza Boice of Ulster Co, NY in c.1850. There first child, Mary Ida, was born c.1851 in NY & died bef 1865. Around 1851, they pioneered into Muscatine Co, Iowa where their sons, Milo (b.1854) & Burton (b.1858) were born.
By 1862, the family had moved to Atchison Co, MO, where their daughters, Jeanette (Genette)(b.1863) & Lydia (b.1868) and possibly Henrietta (d.bef 1865), were born.
It was in Missouri, that John joined Co. F, 58th Reg't., Enrolled Missouri Militia (E.M.M.), Atchison Co., Mo. (Aug 1862). He later joined the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic)
Back in Iowa, their son, Chapman, was born in Aug 1870 in Monona Co. It was around 1877 the Henderson's marriage dissolved. He married Louisa Basier//Bosier (b. 1825 in Saswammir, Germany) on Oct 29, 1877. She brought with her a daughter, Rose, who was born 1861 in Michigan. By 1885 the two were living apart, if not divorced. Iowa marriage records from Aug 1888 show a Louisa Henderson marrying a Darius Hyde.
The 1900 US Census lists her as a widow, living alone.
It is not known if John & Eliza remarried. They are buried together, but instead of listing them as husband & wife on the family headstone, they are listed as Father & Mother.
