James DeVane Smith was a travelling salesman. He married Martha Dandridge Smith (Dannie) in 1877. She was b. in KY in 1859 and d. in 1889 in Sherman, Grayson Co., TX. They had three children: Herschel DeVane Smith b. 1879 in Missouri and d. 1935 in Dallas TX. He became an architect who designed an early City Hall in Dallas, TX; James LeRoy Smith b. 1882 in Sherman, Grayson Co. TX and d. 1935 in Houston, Harris Co., TX. He married Addie Clay Statler in 1910 in Ft Worth, Tarrant Co., TX. He worked in the Purchasing Dept for Humble Oil and Refining Co. which later became Exxon. He is buried in Forest Park Cemetery in Houston, TX; Vivian DeVane Smith (male) b. 1887 in Sherman, Grayson Co., TX and d. 1926 in Sherman, Grayson Co., TX. Feb 1918 in Fairview, Grayson Co., TX, and James DeVane Smith, Jr. b. Oct 1899 and d. May 1960 in Tarrant Co.,TX
