Born on March 12, 1913 in Hardy County, WV, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Taylor Grapes and Lydia Margaret (Self) Grapes. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Lester E. Dawson on October 15, 1997 and a daughter, Elinora Mae Dawson. Mrs. Dawson was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Dawson attended the Limestone School and was a homemaker, a licensed practical nurse and a midwife. She was a charter member of the Keyser Assembly of God and was also a member of the Antioch Church of God.
Surviving are one son, Robert Lee "Sonny" Dawson and wife Oleta of Burlington, WV; three daughters, Betty Ann Johnson and husband Leonard, Shirley Taylor and husband Richard, all of Keyser and Sylvia "Lynnie" Garrett and husband Larry of Warrenton, VA; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a brother-in-law, James Boyce of Keyser.
Friends were received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, November 5 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services were conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Larry Shrout and Rev. James Boyce officiating.
Interment was in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
