Lee was the son of William Eliphet Day and Sophia May Meyers. He had a sister, Bertie, who tragically died in a pedestrian/auto accident when only 15.

He married Vila I. Long on November 27, 1937 in Bethel MO. Two children were born to them:
1. Melvin Lee Day (1939) +Verna LeBlanc
2. Carolyn Louise Day (1940) +Gary M. Kasson

Lee worked general labor/odd jobs during the tough times of the depression years. Later in life worked as a watch/timepiece repairman.
He sustained life-threatening injuries in a car accident in early 1940. He and Vila divorced shortly thereafter.

Lee lived in Iowa in the latter years of his life and passed away in Wellman IA, but not before he had become a believer and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.
