She was one of 12 children who survived to adulthood: Finton, Johanna, Paul, Christine, Marie, Margaret (Dolly), Joseph (Bud), Katheryn, Virginia, Bernard, Norbert, and Robert.

Margaret and Marie were twin sisters.

Margaret's first husband was James Albert Engelken; married April, 1937.
