Paul Gene Trinklein, age 80, died on April 26, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Many co-workers knew him as Paul, but his family all knew him as Gene. He was born in Paonia, Colorado on October 1, 1927. He served 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired. While serving in the Air Force and stationed in Japan, he met and married Matsuyo on February 16, 1951. During his 20 year career he fought in the Korean War and was stationed in many states and countries. He also retired from St. Mary's Hospital as a stationary engineer. He truly loved to fish and went as often as he could. He had a real green thumb and grew the tastiest fruits and vegetables and shared them with family and friends. He also became quite the pool shark at the Senior Center and truly loved the game. His wife, Matsuyo Maria preceded him in death on March 6, 2006, they were married 55 years. He is survived by three children, Allen of Pueblo, Colorado; Helen (husband Garye) Madison of Grand Junction and Bill (wife Peggy) of Grand Junction; three grandchildren, Eric of Grand Junction; Jason of Tucson, Arizona and Carley of Grand Junction. He also had three great grandchildren Taylor, Jacob and Alex of Grand Junction. Military honors will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado and the family will have a celebration of life at a later date, when they all can be together. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
